Pumice is a volcanic glass (it has the chemical composition of granit) formed by the solidification of lava that is permeated with gas bubbles. It has the general appearance of a rock froth and has such a low density because of it’s air chambers it has been seen blowing off volcanic islands in strong winds and it usually floats.
